The Path to Water Resistance

Throughout the 1930s, a wide range of experiments were conducted by Tissot in collaboration with the Swiss Laboratory for Watchmaking Research of Neuchâtel. As a result, first water-resistant models were launched by the Maison like the ‘Camping’ (1938) and ‘Aquasport’ (1939) collections. Apart from being anti-magnetic – and so, very accurate – they were also shockproof, dust-tight, equipped with a stainless-steel case and unbreakable glass.

The Birth of the Seastar Collection

Then in the 1940s, Tissot had released a new ‘Five Star’ series in Canada that also benefitted from these innovations. A decade later, when an improved model of hermetically sealed waterproof watch was created, the decision was naturally made, it would be a ‘Sea’ Star! The name was registered as trademark in 1952 and this watch has since became an iconic model of the brand.

Tissot is proud to announce the launch of a long awaited Seastar extension. The line-up of the Seastar 40mm gets extended, now including the Powermatic 80 movement with these five new models. Observers may recall, the collaboration between Wilson, the WNBA and Tissot recently introduced a 40mm automatic variant, paving the way for this new, more versatile model iteration that continues to embrace the beloved Swiss engineering at its core.

Subtle and sober design updates

For this new release, the casing has undergone a subtle transformation, incorporating a notch along its case edges, resulting in a more compact and sophisticated appearance. These timepieces are perfect for those in search of a sporty yet assertive accessory, offering water resistance up to 30 bar (300 m/ 1000 ft) and improved visibility in low light conditions thanks to the Super-LumiNova® coated hands and hour markers.

The new Seastar collection extension consists of five models, all featuring a vertically brushed dial that fades to black towards the edges, enhancing the overall gradient effect and texture. Each model is equipped with a uni-directional steel bezel with a colour-printed mineral glass ring.

Two models share the same stainless-steel case and bracelet design but differ in their dial colours; one has a blue dial, while the other features a grey dial. Another model for this collection’s extension is the bi-colour model which offers a distinct look. This model is enhanced by a yellow gold-PVD bezel with a black ring and is complemented by a matching bi-colour bracelet combining gold-PVD and stainless steel elements.

Lastly, two models with a rather rare appearance for the Seastar collection, are characterised by their full black-PVD coated stainless steel case. One comes with a black tropic strap with a blue brushed dial, while the other is adorned with a grey brushed dial and sports a metallic all black bracelet.
